Found Coolness: Lava Mae

This is a really cool idea!
I'm not a religious person but I do like to take the opportunity from time to time to remind those who do believe that the bible does have other things in it besides hating Gays; which it doesn't really mention.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
The Book of Matthew Chapter 25, Verses 34-46

Current Events: Leonardo DiCaprio Breaks Up With Big Oil

Saw this on CNN MoneyLeonardo DiCaprio has joined a growing consortium of investors that is breaking ranks with fossil fuels.

When are they going to make this an option for the average Joe with a 401K?

The movie star tweeted that he joined the ranks of Divest Invest. And he's not alone. The divestment movement, according to a report from Arabella Advisors, has grown to 2,040 individuals and 436 institutions from 43 countries representing $2.6 trillion in assets.

This is a dramatic increase from the last Arabella report in September 2014, when Divest Invest had 181 institutions and 656 individuals representing $50 billion.

The investors pledge to separate their portfolios from any exposure to fossil fuel assets in what they call a "carbon constrained world." The investors are also supposed to increase their stake in clean energy companies. The prime motivator for the movement is to reduce the human impact on climate change and global warming.

Music: Ryan Adams Covers Taylor Swift's 1989

I hadn't heard much of TS' 1989 (other than 'Blank Space') thanks to her not allowing it to be streamed on my (paid) music streaming service of choice (Rhapsody) but I have been enjoying Ryan Adams' take on her lyrics all week.

NPR has a good write up on the album: No Blank Space, Baby: Taylor Swift Is The Soul Of Ryan Adams

Current Events: The War On Police Myth

The NPR Article (the source for the graphic at the top): Is There A 'War On Police'? The Statistics Say No has more information on the topic. And The Young Turks break it down in the video below taking into account the adjustment for population.

Many police officers and conservatives believe there there is a war on cops which is being fueled by Black Lives Matter or “social media rhetoric.” It turns out there are actually fewer police deaths than ever before. When adjusted for population, there has NEVER been a safer time to be a police officer. Is it possible that police are just exploiting the deaths of fallen officers in an attempt to demonize Black Lives Matter (and all critics), therefore bolstering the idea that the status quo of police conduct is acceptable? Cenk Uygur, host of the The Young Turks, breaks it down.

Current Events: On the Anniversary of 9-11

Felt like sharing my thought from the past on this day would be appropriate:

"Osama bin Laden has been killed, I think bittersweet is the best way to characterize my feelings about this. A person who committed a heinous act on our soil is gone. But perhaps the greatest trick he ever pulled was getting us to pursue him. When we add up all the human cost of our troops, of the innocents, VS. the toll on Al Qaeda, even when you pile BinLaden on the scale, something tells me they do not tip in our favor, or even balance. Honestly, I would let them all live to have the lives lost and bodies mangled in the pursuit of perceived retribution back."

Current Events: Kim Davis (The Anti-Gay County Clerk) Released From Jail

Joe Rogan made a post on his Facebook page about the Kim Davis Rally that took place when she finally agreed to not block Gay coup;es right to get married and was released:

Sometimes I wonder how an alien race would feel about people if they came down here and the first shit they saw was this crazy lady telling a cheering crowd of supporters that God says she doesn't have to marry gay people.

They travel billions of miles through the cosmos and their first contact ever with human beings is this odd, odd scene of this somewhat rotund, bespectacled woman standing on a raised platform, screaming into a voice amplifier that the invisible man who created everything doesn't allow two men to sign a love contract. She says it, and the huge group of people that agree with her let out what seems to be a war cry and smash their hands together in approval.

She informs the crowd, and all the people watching the digitally broadcast feed around the world that their invisible friend has rules.
He created everything from storm clouds to billy goats to subatomic particles - he's all knowing, and all powerful, but he gets really hung up on two dudes sucking on each other's genitals. He hates it. For some reason he REALLY hates it when those two dudes get married. For that, he reserves a special place in the fiery oven at the center of the planet where he will torture them until the end of time itself.

There would probably be that one alien that was encouraging the others to gather more data - that they should consider the entire spectrum of human thinking before they dismiss the species as dangerously insane. Then there would be the alien that thinks like me, who says, "Dude, they have nuclear bombs. Seriously, fuck this place. Let's get out of here before one of these crazy assholes blows us all up because their imaginary friend told them we have the wrong underwear on or something."

~Joe Rogan
